11 Sep This Weeks Event for Business Brokers
Michigan Business Brokers Association
West Chapter Meeting
September 12, 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Grand Rapids Association of Realtors Office, 660 Kenmoor S.E, Grand Rapids, MI 49546
Leveraging Technology to Do More Deals: Studies indicate less than 60% of our time is actually productive. Imagine your income potential if you can learn to eliminate (or at least manage) all the time wasters that keep you from getting and closing more deals!
In this workshop, Clint Fiore introduces us to “Internet 2.0”, and the technology advancements that can make you more efficient. The discussion encompasses email solutions, phone apps, internet tools, social platforms and CRMs. Fiore’s goal is that you will get at least one or two “AH-HAs” that will save you 30 to 60 minutes each day, thereby maximizing your most valuable asset: YOUR TIME. Implement what you learn and you’ll see positive change in your personal life and business.
Meeting and Lunch provide at 12:00 PM.
Directors Note: West Chapter Directors are to arrive at 11:30 AM for Monthly Board Meeting.

Program Meeting: Capital Gains Taxes That Can Kill Deals
September 13, 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Double Tree Hotel, 5400 Computer Drive, Westborough MA, 01581
Please join us for our September program meeting.
Capital gains taxes can kill deals, such as:
- The prospective seller who decides not to list because the taxes would reduce the net proceeds to a level lower than needed/wanted
- The seller who declines a competitive offer because of the tax bite
The ability to identify tax and liquidity strategies that may allow sellers to minimize their immediate tax obligations can POSITIVELY impact an outcome under certain situations. While 1031 Exchanges have become popular for real estate transactions, similar approaches regarding business sales have been not been commonly deployed. Join us at our next meeting to listen to our panelists speak on approaches to minimizing these tax challenges:
Deferred Sales Trusts
Michael Burwick, Tax & Securities Attorney
Installment Sales with Monetized Loans
Christopher Sargent, PAY ZERO CAPITAL GAINS TAX
If you become familiar with these tax deferral strategies, you’ll be able to take that listing or reach acceptance on an offer that comes in. We invite you to hear our experts explain methods that the IRS will allow, which will permit the deferral of capital gains taxes on the sale of a business.
