The Latest Market Pulse Report

The Latest Market Pulse Report

In last week’s informative webinar, Lisa Riley and Scott Bushkie joined us to discuss the The Market Pulse Report from International Business Brokers Association and The M&A Source. The research from this latest report was gathered between July 1st to July 17th.

A Valuable Educational Tool

Lisa and Scott believe that the report and IBBA is a fantastic way to educate businessowners.  Businessowners often lack the knowledge necessary to sell their business and over rely on CPAs and attorneys to assist them through the process. Businessowners often don’t understand the need to have a specialist on board during the sales process.

In particular, it is very common for businessowners to not understand the real value of their business, with most businessowners believing that their business is, in fact, worth more than the market will actually bare. As Lise and Scott note, “Twenty to thirty percent of businesses successfully sell, and as an association we want to up that to seventy or eighty percent…it is a shame that people work for decades on their business, only to learn at retirement time that their business is not saleable or nowhere near the value they believed.”

This quote highlights just one of the many ways that business brokers can provide a value service to businessowners. In other words, not only should brokerage professionals be reading IBBA reports, but they also should be sharing this information with their clients. As a result, they will find that buyers and sellers have a better understanding of the market.
